This is my Clamshell kiln after several years of raku and aluminum foil saggar firing.  Pictures of when it was new can be seen in Robert Pipenburge's book "The Spirit Of Clay".  I may have those negatives stashed somewhere around here, who knows.   I built this kiln in 199? based on the design of the original Clamshell kin designed and constructed by my friend and awesome clay artist John Harris and his friend Mike B.  This kiln design is now manufactured by my friends at Clay Art Center in Tacoma, WA.  I've built and fired a lot of raku kilns but this is the finest design by far.  Portable, economic, fires fast, quick and easy one person operation and great for workshops.  The accessibility to the work is great from wherever you are pulling from.  I love this kiln!
